Curriculum

The Charles F. Hayden School at Boys & Girls Village is part of Boys & Girls Village's continuum of services serving children and families throughout Connecticut. The Hayden School is a progressive and integrated learning model program designed to serve students with emotional, learning and/or behavioral challenges. Program highlights delivered by expert staff include but are not limited to the following course offerings:

  • Social skill instruction utilizing nationally acclaimed curriculum to foster behavioral change (i.e. Boys Town, Social Skills, Resolving Conflict Creativity). Thematic engaging academic instruction framed in the pillars of character education to foster knowledge acquisition and sound ethical character.

  • Full range of clinical services utilizing specialized approaches such as art therapy, yoga, movement, photography, ceramics nutrition and play therapy.

  • Physical challenges to elicit social-emotional individual and group skill development. Project Adventure and local climbing facilities serve as program resources to therapeutically inspire students to strive and achieve new heights.

  • Committed as a Community of Learning, the Charles F. Hayden School at Boys & Girls Village is designed as an evolutionary education model providing students and staff with the inspiration and skills needed to model an authentic love of learning.

The goal of the Hayden School is to teach children to be successful academically, success that is also evident at home and in their respective communities. Approved as a Special Education institution by the Connecticut State Department of Education, we help boys and girls ages 6-15 achieve their full academic and social potential.

Referrals are accepted from all area school systems.
