Extended Day Treatment
The Extended Day Treatment (EDT) after-school programs are offered out of our Milford and Bridgeport offices and serve boys and girls ages 6-13 for six-month periods. The programs meet Monday through Friday for 3 hours per day and serve children with significant emotional and behavioral difficulties by providing clinical and recreational groups within a therapeutic milieu. The program is open 52-weeks a year, including school vacations. Transportation is provided.
Children participate in groups designed to improve their adaptive living skills and decrease their maladaptive, unhealthy behaviors. These include anger management, problem solving, group therapy, and recreational therapy skills. Children are also taken on day trips in order to improve their functioning and integrate them into their communities. Families are also required to participate in their child's treatment through weekly family meeting and activities. Psychiatric oversight and medication management are also provided while children are in these 6 month programs. The Milford-based EDT program serves the greater New Haven area. The Bridgeport-based EDT program serves children in the Bridgeport/Stratford area. Referrals are accepted from the state Department of Children & Families (DCF), and from schools, outpatient clinics, and partial hospital programs.
