Boys & Girls Village Gets a Facelift

4/15/2014

Boys & Girls Village is growing, and in order to accommodate our changing needs, we have undertaken several major renovations across at both our Milford and Bridgeport locations.

The Dan and Yolanda Adley Student Center in Milford saw a major facelift in the form of a new art room, where students will now study art, music and yoga with teacher Justin Shay. The space became available through the renovation of unused locker rooms, which also created space for a new computer lab and nurse’s office.

We also enhanced our gym with new air conditioning, sound system, and a portable stage for student productions and performing arts. Additionally, we added a new fitness room for students to use under the guidance of a trained instructor. Boys & Girls Village was fortunate to receive $25,000 from Friends of Jimmy Miller, Inc. to help with these upgrades.

Additional renovations at our Milford campus include converting the Annex into a lower school with three classrooms, and equipping these classrooms with Smart Boards, an interactive technology that allows for increased student engagement during lessons. Computer labs are present in both buildings thanks in part to the very generous support of the Werth Family Foundation, who provided a $25,000 grant. A second wing within the Annex is currently under construction and when completed will include additional classroom space.

Thanks to $125,000 in bonding funds from the State of Connecticut, our 14,000 square foot Bridgeport location is also undergoing major renovations to make it a more user- and family-friendly space. Slated for completion this summer, it will feature a new, open and flexible workspace along with an upgraded IT infrastructure to support our increasing mobile work force. Staff will find it easier to collaborate and share ideas, access much needed meeting space, and offer families and visitors a welcoming and functional atmosphere.

We thank all of our donors and supporters who have made many of these expansions possible, and will continue to update everyone on our progress as we expand our operations at Boys & Girls Village.
