Mission statement: The Youth Link Mentoring Program works with LGBTQIA+, cisgender, gender non-conforming, and transgender youth between the ages of 13 to 21.  Our goal is to support the development of long-term, supportive, and affirming relationships with adult mentors, who will help them reach their greatest potential and live their most authentic lives.

Why is this program vital for our youth?

LGBTQIA+ youth often experience significant rejection and losses because of their identity.  This mentoring program provides them with an opportunity to have a positive and affirming adult in their life which is crucial to their growth and development. In addition to general social activities of mentoring, the youth and their mentors will be invited to engage in group activities and curriculum-based workshops on a variety of life skills such as:

  • Goal setting, nutrition, employment, and money management
  • Having healthy relationships and sexual health
  • Housing and substance misuse
  • Addressing inequalities based on race, gender, and identity

Client and mentor testimonials

"Mentoring is important because it provides our teens with a safe space to express themselves and explore their interests. As a mentor I am here to guide them through essential life skills, help them gain confidence, and also help them have a better understanding of how to navigate through their environments!" - Youth Mentor

"I think mentoring is important for several reasons.  Mentors help you to have a better and happy life.  They help you socialize more with new people, and as a mentee in the program, I feel happier and better! - Youth Mentee (16 years old)
